HIS NAME

by Andrea Marcusa

The most pointless thing of all was how he wasn’t allowed to have his name stitched on his school knapsack – strangers can steal a child that way.  So were those vaccinations against diphtheria, meningitis, polio and the morning vitamin he hated – a chewable pink bear.  Or that car seat he was made to sit in on rides to school, even though most of his friends no longer had to use one, so futile. But there was something about his name – he’d taught himself to write it all by himself when he was two. Wanted everyone to use his full name. Not a nickname, not a shortened version. A good strong one for a boy.  Greek, after an apostle, after a king, and his grandfather in Alaska.  But that morning in the classroom with them all scattered around--there was no way to tell--no trace of it anywhere on him. But inside the neck of his too big, long-sleeved striped jersey, a strange, gloved hand peeled back the collar where he was found limp and face down, and that’s when they spotted it -- in black markered script. Dear child, in those first minutes, even your name was gone, displaced by the one on a hand-me-down from your brother, now a fourth grader in a classroom on the other end of the school, where he was crouched trembling, hiding in the closet.

Research Indicates Parents Are Questioning The Efficacy of Vaccination

Parents are finally waking up and questioning the efficacy of acidic vaccinations...and the injection of animal DNA, acidic chemicals and known carcinogens into their children. Now the CDC has NO EXCUSE for not doing the vax vs. nonvax study. There are plenty unvaccinated kids out there to finally do a health assessment on!

About half of US kids younger than 2 years old do not receive all vaccines as recommended by a federal schedule, according to a study yesterday in JAMA Pediatrics. Of 323,247 children born from 2004 to 2008, Kaiser Permanente researchers found that 157,454 (48.7%) missed their scheduled childhood vaccines by at least a day, and one in eight of those kids' parents intentionally strayed from the schedule recommended by the US Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices."

JAMA Network | JAMA Pediatrics | A Population-Based Cohort Study of Undervaccination in 8 Managed Ca, archpedi.jamanetwork.com

Objectives: To examine patterns and trends of undervaccination in children aged 2 to 24 months and to compare health care utilization rates between undervaccinated and age-appropriately vaccinated children.

Results:  Of 323 247 children born between 2004 and 2008, 48.7% were  for at least 1 day before age 24 months. The prevalence of undervaccination and specific patterns of undervaccination increased over time (P < .001). In a matched cohort analysis, undervaccinated children had lower outpatient visit rates compared with children who were age-appropriately vaccinated (incidence rate ratio [IRR], 0.89; 95% CI, 0.89- 0.90). In contrast, undervaccinated children had increased inpatient admission rates compared with age-appropriately vaccinated children (IRR, 1.21; 95% CI, 1.18-1.23). In a second matched cohort analysis, children who were undervaccinated because of parental choice had lower rates of outpatient visits (IRR, 0.94; 95% CI, 0.93-0.95) and emergency department encounters (IRR, 0.91; 95% CI, 0.88-0.94) than age-appropriately vaccinated children.

Conclusions:  Undervaccination appears to be an increasing trend. Undervaccinated children appear to have different health care utilization patterns compared with age-appropriately vaccinated children.

The pH Miracle Lifestyle and Diet Saved My Life!

"1 year ago today I finished reading Dr. Robert Young's Ph Miracle book and began my new life on an alkaline diet. Today I am completely off all my medications, have not had any digestive issues to speak of and feel better than I have felt in many, many years. I would strongly encourage anyone facing any medical issues to give this way of life a try - it has saved my life!"

For Palestinians, Israeli elections signal deepening occupation --Haaretz, January 21, 2013

Emptiness echo full of itself
Reverberating eardrum downbeat tambour percussion
Vainglorious ambitions disconnected unanswered prayers
Orchestrated symphony forever left unfinished

Terra not so firma quaking
Earth reopened bottomless sinkhole aftershocks
Natural depression hollow subway passages
Ants streaming through clogged arteries

Shorn sheep led to slaughter
Tough tasteless mutton gyros grilled
Axis rotating in wrong direction
Anti-clockwise alarm no turning back

Unholy land-grab borderless uncivil war
Black white gray distinctions obliterated
Singed hawk feathers decalcified plumes
Phoenix smoldering in spitfire embers

Fearless hate-mongers playing for keeps
Recycled unsettled grievances sold out
Unruly mob committing unjustifiable offences
Numbed conscience bleeding cardinal sins

Mauve dusk undermining tomorrow’s dawn
After dark luminous eclipsed aura
Overshadowed neon deep purple afterglow
Nocturnal rhapsody evocative fallen stars

WOMEN KEEP ON COUNTING

by Tricia Knoll

Image source: I love it when I wake up in the morning and Barack Obama is President.

For regular women like me
it’s possible to set an alarm
on any computer to remind
what day is most likely
what day is a bit late
what date is too late

Counting, getting to plus five
and no blood; we have been there,
regulars and irregulars
worrying
keeping silences

the want to be mothers
the can’t be mothers
the victims of others

the girl I knew
had to go to Mexico
and came back bloodied
sick and sterile
rocking in a chair
with her teddy bear

that was a long time ago
and women keep on counting

Tricia Knoll was a young woman before Roe v. Wade. She saw first hand the disintegration of a wonderful woman from a butchered abortion. Tricia Knoll is a Portland, Oregon poet.

THE FOUR YEAR PRANK

by David Feela

It’s not so difficult to believe Manti Te'o.
For the last four years I thought Congress
might come to a meaningful bipartisan
decision, but I was duped.  I trusted

the banks with my home, the stock market
with my retirement, the doctors and
insurance companies with my health,
but I presumed too much.  I was so sure

that terrorists lived abroad, were denied
access to our theaters, malls, and schools.
Of course I’m gullible, but there’s so much
I want to believe, even if I can’t see it.

Talk to me with a tender voice, tell me
the next four years will be better.

David Feela writes a monthly column for The Four Corners Free Press and for The Durango Telegraph. A poetry chapbook, Thought Experiments, won the Southwest Poet Series. His first full length poetry book, The Home Atlas appeared in 2009. His new book of essays, How Delicate These Arches  , released through Raven's Eye Press, has been chosen as a finalist for the Colorado Book Award.

LETTER IN WHICH I THANK THE PRESIDENT FOR NOT INVITING ME TO READ AT HIS INAUGURAL

by J.R. Solonche

Dear Mr. President:

Thank you for not inviting me to read
at your inaugural.

Believe me, when I heard that that other poet,
that Blanco, got the nod, I was relieved.

Let me tell you, I spent days and days,
weeks in fact, occupied with nothing but America,

I steeped myself in America,
I breathed America, I ate America, I slept America,

I studied maps of America, that familiar two-handled shape,
I gazed at pictures of grain in amber waves,

I read the Declaration, I read the Constitution,
I read the Gettysburg Address, twenty times, I read Jefferson,

I read Adams, I read de Tocqueville, I read Franklin, I read Paine,
I read Huckleberry Finn, I read Moby Dick,

I read The Scarlet Letter, I read An American Tragedy,
I read Walt, I read Ralph Waldo, I read Emily,

I read Wallace, I read Robert, I read William Carlos,
I looked at every Norman Rockwell calendar I could find,

I looked at every Mathew Brady photograph I could find,
I listened to Gershwin, I listened to Ellington, I listened to Joplin,

I listened to Presley, I listened to Ives,
I listened to The New World Symphony, three times a day,

I rented every John Wayne movie I could find,
I ate potatoes three times a day, I ate corn three times a day,

I ate apple pie three times a day,
I drank bourbon, I drank hard cider.

And after all this saturation in America,
when I sat down to write an inaugural poem,

Mr. President, I drew a zero, nothing came,
the only word I could write was the one word America,

so what did I do? Let me tell you, I just started Yankee-
doodling around to see if anything would inspire me,

but all I got was acirema and I am acer and race aim and am Erica
and I care, ma, or Ma, I care.

So thank you Mr. President, for not inviting me
to read at your inaugural. Let Blanco do it. I’m a blank.

Sincerely,
J.R. Solonche

J.R. Solonche is co-author (with wife Joan Siegel) of Peach Girl: Poems for a Chinese Daughter (Grayson Books). His poems have appeared in many magazines, journals, and anthologies since the 1970s. He teaches at SUNY Orange in Middletown, New York.

HE WON MAJOR SCORN

by Jan D. Hodge

There was such acid in his smile
And such hardness in his thought,
It was no wonder what deep chill
His conviction brought.

Never considering that words
Extracted from attitudes adjusted
By stress positions and waterboards
Were not to be trusted,

He spoke with infinite scorn
At those who discredited his view,
Lip curled, sullen and smugly stern,
Unbeautiful, untrue.

Not one to retreat from truculence,
Even a change of heart changed nothing.
We are vexed at such intransigence
And such deep loathing.

Jan D. Hodge has had poems published in Western Wind (5th ed.), Writing Metrical Poetry, and many print and online journals, including North American Review, New Orleans Review, Iambs & Trochees, Defined Providence, IthacaLit, and South Coast Poetry Journal.  His double dactyl renderings of Shakespeare, nursery stories, and tales from the Arabian Nights have appeared in the American Arts Quarterly website, Lavender Review, Off the Coast, Light Quarterly, Kiss and Part, Poetry Revolt, and Umbrella Journal.  The title of this poem anagrams John Crowe Ransom, whose "Bells for John Whiteside's Daughter" obviously served as the model for the poem.

A Natural Healthy and Legal Way To Increase Blood Volumne - Pass It Along To Lance

There were several questions that came to mind after watching the Oprah Winfrey and Lance Armstrong interview where Lance finally admitted to using EPO, human-growth hormone, testosterone and blood doping.

So What is Blood Doping?

Blood doping is an illicit method of improving athletic performance by artificially boosting the blood's ability to carry and deliver more oxygen to the connective tissues, including the muscules.

In many cases, blood doping increases the red blood count and its main oxygen carrying molecule, hemoglobin.  So, increasing hemoglobin allows higher amounts of oxygen to reach and alkalize an athlete's muscles.  This can improve stamina and performance, particularly in long-distance events, such as long-distance running and cycling.

Blood doping is banned by the International Olympic Committe and other sports organizations.

What Are Types of Blood Doping?

The three widely used types of blood doping are:

1) Blood transfusions
2) Injections of erythropoetin (EPO), and
3) Injections of synthetic oxygen oxygen carriers.

Here are some more details about each of these types of blood doping:
Blood transfusions.  In normal medical practice, patients may undergo blood transfusions to replace blood lost due to injury, surgery or chemotherapy. Transfusions also are given to patients who suffer from low red blood cell counts caused by anemiakidney failure, cancer and chemotherapy treatments.
Illicit blood transfusions are used by athletes to boost athletic performance. There are two types.
Autologous transfusion. This involves a transfusion of the athlete's own blood, which is drawn and then stored for future use.  Most commonly this involves the removal of two units (approximately 2 pints!) of the athletes blood several weeks prior to competition. The blood is then frozen until 1-2 days before the competition, when it is thawed and injected back into the athlete. This is known as autologous blood doping.
Homologous transfusion. In this type of transfusion, athletes use the blood of someone else with the same blood type and then injected straight into the athlete.
EPO Injections

EPO is a hormone produced by the kidney. It regulates the body's production of red blood cells.  In medical practice, EPO injections are given to stimulate the production of red blood cells. For example, a synthetic EPO can be used to treat patients with anemia related to chronic or end-stage kidney disease or cancer and its treatment with chemotherapy.
Athletes using EPO do so to encourage their bodies to produce higher than normal amounts of red blood cells, hemoglobin and blood volume called hematocrit to enhance athletic performance.
Synthetic Oxygen Carriers

These are chemicals that have the ability to carry oxygen. Two examples are:
  • HBOCs (hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers)
  • PFCs (perfluorocarbons)
Synthetic oxygen carriers have a legitimate medical use as emergency therapy. It is used when a patient needs a blood transfusion but:
  • human blood is not available
  • there is a high risk of blood out-fection (A blood outfection is when the blood is breaking down due to metabolic and/or dietary acids or from acidic drug use.)
  • there isn't enough time to find the proper match of blood type
Athletes use synthetic oxygen carriers to achieve the same performance-enhancing effects of other types of blood doping: increased oxygen in the blood carried by the hemoglobin in red blood cells that helps reduce tissue acidosis in the connective tissues and muscles.  This results in reduced tissue or muscle breakdown and tissue acidosis that causes inflammation and pain.

So what could have Lance Armstrong done differently to achieve athletic superiority in his sport without drugs and blood fransfusions? And, how could have Lance Armstrong naturally increased his red blood cell count, hemaglobin and hematocrit and in turn increased his VO2 or oxygen volume to his connective tissues and muscles thus minimizing acid build-up and cellular breakdown, without taking hormones, steroids, EPO and blood transfusions known as blood doping?

Having been a professional athlete myself I have been doing natural blood doping successfully for myself (My blood counts run consistently - RBC count 5.2 million/mcL, Hemoglobin 17.2 g/dl, Hematocrit 53%, White Blood Count 3.8 thousands/mcL, Platelet Count 156 thousands/mcL, Glucose 80 mg/dl, Sodium 146 mEq/L, Chloride 106 mEq/L, Potassium 5 mEq/L, and Calcium 9.8 mg/dl, just to name a few of the most important markers in the blood), other athletes (including Professional and Olympic athletes) and cancer patients around the World for years with NO negative side-effects.

IT IS SIMPLE - IT IS SAFE - IT IS NATURAL - IT IS SMART and IT IS LEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No side-effects except for increased health, energy and vitality.

Pass this on to Lance Armstrong?

Here is the formula for natural blood building without medical drugs, hormones, steroids, or blood transfusions (based upon 70kg body):

1)  Drink 250ml of pH Miracle liquid Chlorophyll.  Chlorophyll is the concentrated blood of green plants and is identical to human hemoglobin except for the center atom of magnesium in chlorophyll.  Drinking the blood of green plants will increase hemoglobin in less than two weeks.

2)  Drink 6 liters of pH Miracle Greens with 5 drops of the puripHy per liter.  The pH Miracle greens contains concentrated (28 to 1 concentration) grasses, fruit and vegetables that will increase red blood cell count and blood volume as indicated on a Comprehensive Blood Count Test.  The pH Miracle puripHy drops will increase the pH of the green drink and help to buffer metabolic and dietary acids that break down connective tissue and weaken muscles.

3)  Ingest 16 portions of alkalizing green fruit and vegetables.  Ingesting liberal amounts of green fruit and vegetables daily will help to maintain the high levels of red blood cells, hemoglobin and hematocrit.

4)  Drink 100ml of the pH Miracle Omega 3, 6 and 9 oil.  The ingestin of polyunsaturated oils from hemp, borage and flax will provide the necessary lipids for building the membranes of stem cells and blood cells and keeping them strong.

5)  Ingest 1 scoop of pHour salts in the morning, 1 sccop at night and 1 scoop any time the pH of the urine drops below 7.2.  The pHour salts contain four foundational mineral salts for the purpose of maintaining the alkaline design of the body fluids and reduce and/or eliminate the metabolic and respiratory acids that build-up during strenuous exercise such as carbonic acid and lactic acid.

6)  Spray the pHlavor salts orally to replace electrolytes and reduce the acids that create lightheadedness, dizziness, cold hands, cold feet, poor circulation, low energy, just to name a few symptoms of low mineral salts.

7) And, finally take 2 scoops twice a day of the pH Miracle L-Arginine Max to improve blood and lymph circulation by breaking up acidic mucous, plaque, calcifications, and cysts in the blood, lymph and connective tissue.

When an athlete follows the above recommendations based upon my clinical research for over twenty years he or she will consistantly show increases in their red blood cell count approaching or exceeding 5 million/mcL, hemoglobin increases approaching or exceeding 15 g/dl, and hematocrit increases approaching or exceeding a volume of  50 percent or higher.

The following article suggests other incredible benefits for eating and drinking daily green fruit and vegetables:

http://articlesofhealth.blogspot.com/2013/01/another-reason-to-eat-and-drink-your.html

Another Reason To Eat and Drink Your Green Fruit and Vegetables!

Another good reason to eat your Greens: It makes you more optimistic about the future

  • Optimistic folk have higher levels of plant compounds called carotenoids in their blood. Orange produce and green veg are rich in carotenoids
  • It's thought they might have a de-stressing effect

People who eat plenty of fruit and vegetables tend to be more optimistic about the future, new research suggests.

Scientists have discovered that optimistic folk have higher levels of plant compounds called carotenoids in their blood.

A commonly-known carotenoid is beta-carotene, a pigment found in high levels in orange fruit and veg and green, leafy vegetables.

Scientists have discovered that optimistic folk have higher levels of plant compounds called carotenoids - found in orange produce and green, leafy vegetables - in their blood

Previous studies have shown that high blood levels of antioxidants  - of which carotenoids are one form - may be a marker of good health.

Antioxidants help keep other molecules in the body from producing free radicals, which can damage cells and contribute to disease.
'This is the first study of its kind to report a relationship between optimism and healthier levels of carotenoid concentrations,' she added.

One theory is that antioxidants might have a de-stressing effect.

The current study evaluated blood concentrations of nine different antioxidants, including carotenoids such as beta-carotene and vitamin E in nearly 1,000 American men and women ages 25 to 74.

Participants filled out a questionnaire about their life attitudes and provided blood samples to the researchers, according to the report in Psychosomatic Medicine.

People who ate two or fewer servings of fruits and vegetables a day were significantly less optimistic than people who ate three or more servings a day
People who ate two or fewer servings of fruits and vegetables a day were significantly less optimistic than people who ate three or more servings a day
They also measured the degree of optimism in the same group.

Researchers found that people who were more optimistic had up to a 13 per cent increase in carotenoid concentrations in their blood compared with people who were less optimistic.

The researchers believe that higher levels of fruit and vegetable consumption among more optimistic people may at least partially explain the results.

They found that people who ate two or fewer servings of fruits and vegetables a day were significantly less optimistic than people who ate three or more servings a day.

They added that the relationship between optimism and carotenoid levels was only partially explained by the fact that more optimistic people tended to engage in healthier behaviors such as eating fruits and vegetables and avoiding cigarette smoking.

Last year, scientists at Warwick University found that people who ate seven portions of fruit and veg a day are the happiest.
The study found that those who ate around eight portions of fruit and vegetables a day had an average score that was one point higher than people who did not eat any.

The link remained even when people’s exercise levels and overall diet – both of which can influence mood – were accounted for.

Although it is not known exactly how fruit and veg improve wellbeing, they contain chemicals known as antioxidants, which are thought to reduce stress levels.

At the time, lead researcher Professor Andrew Oswald said  he was 'stunned ' when he looked at the data.

‘We think we’re on to something really important here,' he said. 'However, we don’t really know why this is – whether there is something in the biochemistry of the fruit and veg which works inside humans.

‘We know that fruit and veg  carry a lot of antioxidants and those protect us against attacks on the body. But how that works through into our minds and emotions, researchers have no idea.'

The Department of Health has spent at least £4million on its ‘five a day’ advertising campaign since it was launched in 2003.

In contrast, the French are told to eat ten portions a day, the Canadians between five and ten, and the Japanese 13 portions of vegetables and four pieces of fruit.  Dr. Robert O. Young recommends over 14 to 16 portions of green fruit and green vegetables every day.
